Atlanta Part One: Mini Vacation

A few weekends ago Andrew and I went to Atlanta just for the heck of it. It was a short-lived, but much needed little get away. Two days and one night of taking it easy and eating delicious food. We stayed at what is becoming one of our favorite little spots, The Highland Inn, in the Virginia Highlands area of Hotlanta. A lovely, artsy part of town, it's an area that is easily (and safely) enjoyed on foot. At this time in our lives Andrew and I like to be in places where walking, biking, and reliable transportation is easily possible.

The Highland Inn was built in the 1920s, so it has the character of being a big old building. Which also means it has no elevator, and the rooms open with an actual key. I find both of those more adventurous than tedious, but not all travelers would find it as exciting as we do. But we've both backpacked across Europe, so to find yourself in a warm bed with amenities is a delight after sleeping outside of train stations and even once in a public restroom. (It was in Switzerland where everything is spanking clean, so don't freak out too much).
Andrew enjoying one of Sweetwater's
offerings. Besides my normal IPA, I fell for
their Sweetwater Blue, a blueberry infused beer.
You could serious have it with brunch.
We enjoyed shopping, a $10 tour of Sweetwater Brewery (a glass and 6 large samples of their brews were thrown into the mix), and meals from Yeah Burger!, Antico Pizza, and West Egg. The Georgia Aquarium was initially on our to-do list because I love aquariums, but it was so expensive and over-crowded, we opted to take a rain check on that experience.
We're kind of old fashioned, so we bought an actual, paper map
to guide us around the city.

I'm a list person. Sometimes I make spacial-and-somewhat-disproportional-to-do lists.
